I'm not sure what all the bad reviews are about. I had the Fish and the Eggplant with fried rice. Two item plate for $10. It was good. I came back week later craving the same thing, this time I had it with the pad Thai. I think I preferred the rice over the pad Thai. I like this place. Maybe some of the items are not as good as what I had picked? I am quite a picky and tough reviewer when it comes to food. For a food court take out place, I give this place 5 star.I’ve visited here multiple times since my 1st visit. They have a discounted prices later in the day(dinner time $1-2 cheaper) - H S

Top Choice Introduce

For anyone navigating the bustling heart of New South Wales' capital, Sydney, the need for a quick, satisfying, and value-for-money meal is a daily reality. This is where **Top Choice** steps in. Located in a prime position on George Street, Top Choice presents itself as a practical and popular solution for those seeking the familiar flavours of Asian and Chinese cuisine without the long wait or the high prices often associated with CBD dining. It perfectly encapsulates the convenience of city life, offering a 'quick bite' style of service that appeals strongly to busy professionals and late-afternoon shoppers alike.

Categorised as both a Chinese and broader Asian restaurant, Top Choice provides a menu that features a selection of dishes designed for fast service. Based on local reviews and feedback, the model seems to be centred around pre-prepared dishes, often served from a bain-marie, allowing customers to quickly select their favourites—a common and welcome sight in high-traffic Sydney food courts. This system ensures that your meal is ready almost immediately, making it a reliable choice when your lunch break is short or you need to grab dinner quickly before catching your train home from the city. The focus on efficiency and affordability has cemented its reputation, especially among solo diners who appreciate the no-fuss atmosphere.

While every dining experience is subjective, as noted by mixed customer feedback, Top Choice maintains a consistent presence by focusing on accessible pricing and speed. It has found its niche serving the Sydney community, providing a range of classic dishes from the region. Whether you're craving something hearty to finish your day or simply need to satisfy a specific flavour craving, this venue at 450 George Street is worth considering for its convenience and pricing model.

Location and Accessibility for NSW Users

Accessibility is paramount in the Sydney CBD, and Top Choice boasts a location that is hard to beat for NSW commuters and residents. The restaurant is situated at:

450 George St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia

This address places it firmly in the centre of Sydney’s most dynamic commercial and retail strip. Being on George Street means it is exceptionally well-served by Sydney’s world-class public transport network. Key transport hubs, including Town Hall Station (with direct access to the wider NSW train network) and Wynyard Station, are only a short walk away. The light rail services that run along George Street also provide a convenient drop-off point right near the venue.

The restaurant is located within a complex that is highly trafficked and generally easy to access, which is a major advantage for local patrons. While specific details on internal accessibility (such as wheelchair ramps or accessible restrooms) are not explicitly provided in the public 'About Info,' the nature of its location within a major CBD building generally implies good external accessibility from the street. For Sydney-siders leaving work, its position makes it an ideal stop for a convenient dinner before the evening commute, eliminating the need to search far and wide for an affordable meal in the busy city centre. The ease of finding and getting to this location contributes significantly to its appeal as a 'Top Choice' for practical dining.

Services Offered

Top Choice focuses on a streamlined service model tailored to the demands of the fast-paced Sydney CBD environment, ensuring efficiency and ease for its patrons.

  • Dine-in Service: The primary service option is dine-in. Operating within a food court, the atmosphere is deliberately casual. This environment is perfect for individuals or small groups who want to sit down for a quick meal without the formality or time commitment of a traditional restaurant setting.
  • Popular for Dinner: The venue is specifically highlighted as being popular for dinner. This suggests that as the working day winds down in the CBD, Top Choice becomes a preferred location for an evening meal. Furthermore, a customer review notes that the restaurant often features **discounted prices later in the day (dinner time)**, making it an even more attractive option for value-conscious NSW diners.
  • Quick Bite Offering: The 'quick bite' designation confirms the restaurant's commitment to speed. This is ideal for locals on the move who need a fast, satisfying feed, reflecting the typical food court experience where speed of service is a key expectation.
  • Solo Dining Friendly: The establishment is noted as being popular for solo dining. The casual, communal setting of a food court is often less intimidating for those dining alone, making it a comfortable and efficient option for individuals across New South Wales who are in the city for business or leisure.
  • Flexible Payment Options: To facilitate a quick and seamless transaction, Top Choice accepts a wide range of modern payment methods, including major Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and modern NFC Mobile Payments. This flexibility is crucial for city dining where cash is increasingly less common.

Features and Highlights

While the full menu details are not public, customer feedback helps illuminate the key highlights and value proposition of Top Choice, making it a distinctive option in the competitive Sydney food scene.

  • Exceptional Value Proposition: A major highlight is the perceived value for money. Reviews point to offers like a "Two item plate for $10" (which includes fried rice or similar carb), positioning it as one of the more affordable lunch or dinner options available in the costly Sydney CBD. This kind of consistent value is a significant draw for the local NSW community.
  • Potential for Dinner Discounts: The feature of having "discounted prices later in the day (dinner time)"—often $1–2 cheaper—is a key selling point. This incentive encourages patronage during the evening and helps budget-conscious diners save a little extra.
  • Diverse Asian/Chinese Offerings: Though the menu lacks formal listing, customer reviews mention a variety of dishes like Fish, Eggplant, Fried Rice, and Pad Thai. This indicates that Top Choice offers a broader selection than just strictly Chinese cuisine, providing both classic Chinese favourites and other well-loved Asian dishes like Pad Thai, catering to a wider NSW palate.
  • High Praise for Specific Dishes: Despite mixed feedback on consistency, certain patrons have given a strong 5-star rating for specific combinations, particularly the Fish and Eggplant dishes served with Fried Rice. This suggests that when the food is at its freshest, the quality is highly competitive for a food court environment.
  • Focus on Speed and Efficiency: As a food court outlet, the operational focus is on getting customers served quickly. The quick-bite nature of the service ensures minimal waiting time, which is invaluable to busy Sydney-siders.

What is Worth Choosing at Top Choice

Top Choice is worth choosing for the New South Wales resident or visitor who prioritizes **speed, central location, and exceptional value for money** above all else. This is not a destination for an intimate, upscale dining experience, but rather a functional and reliable source of sustenance in a high-cost city environment.

The primary reason to choose Top Choice is the **affordability and value combo**. The consistent offer of a multi-item plate at a low price point, such as the widely praised two-item plate around the $10 mark, is virtually unbeatable in the heart of Sydney. When coupled with the reported discounted prices available later in the day, it becomes an extremely compelling option for an inexpensive dinner, which is a major draw for local workers and students.

However, the decision to choose Top Choice must be made with the context of its food court model in mind. Customer reviews are mixed; while some patrons give it top marks as a "food court take out place," others have commented on issues with freshness and temperature, suggesting a potential variability in quality, particularly outside of peak service times.

Therefore, the strategy for the local user is to leverage its strengths:

  • Target Dinner Time: Go for the reported discounted dinner prices to maximise the value proposition.
  • Select Known Winners: As with any bain-marie style service, stick to items with high turnover or those specifically praised, like the Fish and Eggplant, where the reviewer noted high satisfaction.

Ultimately, Top Choice is the ideal choice for a quick, casual, and wallet-friendly Asian meal on George Street—a dependable option that serves its purpose effectively for the solo diner or anyone needing a quick fix in the Sydney CBD.
