Marble Bar Introduce
For those in New South Wales seeking a truly unforgettable nightlife destination that seamlessly blends history, architectural grandeur, and sophisticated entertainment, **Marble Bar** stands as a genuine Sydney icon. Located beneath the Hilton Sydney in the bustling CBD, this is far more than just a place to grab a drink; it is a meticulously preserved, heritage-listed venue that transports visitors back to the opulence of the late 19th century. Originally constructed between 1891 and 1893 as part of George Adams' Tattersall's Hotel, the entire Victorian structure was painstakingly dismantled, piece by piece, and reassembled in its current subterranean location in 1973, ensuring this architectural masterpiece remains a central fixture of Sydney's social scene.
The atmosphere at Marble Bar is consistently praised as stunning, elegant, historic, and full of character. It is a lavish, upscale space designed in the Italian Renaissance style by architect Varney Parkes, son of Sir Henry Parkes. Patrons descend into an underground oasis adorned with 100 tonnes of marble imported from Belgium and Africa, featuring ornately carved American walnut joinery, elaborate bronze Corinthian columns, mosaic floors, stained-glass windows, and a collection of fourteen original French realist-style oil paintings commissioned from renowned Australian artist Julian Ashton. This incredible, richly detailed fit-out makes every visit feel like stepping into a glamorous time capsule, offering a unique vibe that differentiates it from any other bar in the city.
Marble Bar functions primarily as a sophisticated **Cocktail Bar** and a vibrant **Live Music Venue**. The drinks menu is extensive and refined, featuring a carefully curated selection of signature cocktails, including the highly recommended Lychee Cocktail (similar to the Lychee Martini available on the Happy Hour menu), which is noted by patrons as a must-try. Beyond cocktails, the offerings include an impressive array of fine and rare spirits, an expansive wine list, and high-quality bar food, catering to a discerning Sydney crowd looking for a classy night out.
The location of Marble Bar is exceptional, situated in the very heart of the Sydney CBD at **Level B1/488 George St, Sydney NSW 2000, Australia**. Its placement within the Hilton Sydney complex makes it an accessible, central, and prestigious destination for both local New South Wales patrons and international visitors. George Street is one of the city's main arteries, ensuring easy access via all forms of public transport.
Accessibility is thoughtfully managed for a venue located on a basement level. The bar features a **Wheelchair accessible entrance**, **Wheelchair accessible seating**, and crucially in a busy CBD area, it offers multiple parking solutions including a **Paid parking garage**, **Paid parking lot**, and **Valet parking**. Its location is within walking distance of major transport hubs like Town Hall Station, cementing its status as a convenient meeting point for groups from across the city.
Marble Bar provides a premium suite of services designed for a sophisticated evening out. The combination of its historic setting and modern operational standards ensures a memorable experience.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Came here to celebrate some birthdays. It was too crowded on our first visit, so we decided to come back another night. Unfortunately, the bartender wasn’t very friendly, which almost had us heading out early. Thankfully, the server in the photo turned things around with their great service and really helped salvage the experience. Definitely try the lychee cocktail — it’s a must!

August 24 · Gianluca AlessiWow what a venue! Settling into the Marble Bar for the night, for another dance night. It’s been open for over 130yrs with great decor. We haven’t been here since the San Fransisco Grill closed (yep, long long time). Really great band.
May 26 · Pandy DimitriosSituated downstairs at the Hilton, walking into the Marble Bar is like walking back in time. It is just stunning and has the most beautiful artwork. They do have live music and djs on certain nights. Perfect for catching up with friends but it can get a tad noisy. It really is a must go to if in the city especially if you are in the mood for cocktails.
