ArtHouse Hotel Introduce
For patrons across New South Wales seeking a dynamic, multi-faceted entertainment and dining experience housed within a stunning heritage building, the **ArtHouse Hotel** stands as a magnificent destination in the Sydney CBD. Far more than a standard pub, the ArtHouse Hotel is a grand, multi-level venue that perfectly fuses architectural history with modern hospitality, offering everything from a bustling cocktail bar to a dedicated Asian restaurant and a major function facility. This iconic building, formerly the **Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts** (dating back to 1836), retains much of its original grandeur, featuring high ceilings, intricate decor, and a tangible sense of history that makes every visit feel like an occasion.
The hotel is divided into distinct zones, catering to varied tastes and occasions. The most notable space is the ground-floor **Rabbit Bar** (including the **Rabbit Hall** and **Rustic Verge Bar**), which serves as the vibrant public bar and a key hub for live entertainment. This area is noted for its high ceilings and beautiful bar, offering a warm and casual atmosphere, perfect for after-work drinks, a quick feed, or enjoying some background music. The food menu in the Rabbit Bar is focused on elevated pub classics and share plates, such as **Beer Battered Fish & Chips**, **Buffalo Chicken Wings** (popular on "Wings Wednesday"), and various burgers and substantial mains.
Complementing the pub offering is **Artasian**, the Level One restaurant. This venue provides an entirely different culinary experience, focusing on exquisite **Asian fusion cuisine**. The menu here is broad, featuring a symphony of flavours from across the continent with dishes like **Bao Buns**, **Pad Thai**, various curries (Red, Yellow, Green), and **Chef’s Selections** such as Shantung Crispy Chicken. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1After wandering around the local streets, I stumbled across the ArtHouse Hotel to the sound of some live music and decided to pop in. I ended up in the aptly named Rabbit Hall, part of the Rabbit Bar. The neon sign out the back could do with a rethink — it looks a bit more like it belongs to a strip joint than a bar — but once inside it was a good surprise.I happened to land on Wings Wednesday, which was a win. A quick drink and a plate of wings made for a great quick dinner. The food was tasty and well-priced for what it was, and the drink went down a treat. The atmosphere was warm, if a touch on the dark side, with plenty of charm for anyone who likes historic architecture and old-school style venues. The live music added to the mood, though it wrapped up a little earlier than I would have liked. All in all, a solid spot for a casual feed and a drink with character. Four stars from me.
September 27 · Michael McDonaldSuch a grand location for a drink and light bite to eat. Was so glad to have walked into this bar. Such a high ceilings and the bar was beautiful. A great place to have a drink with some very beautiful decor to admire around you. We were just leaving as some live music was starting up as we had somewhere else to be - but would love to return and catch the place with some music. We were enjoying this drink in the Rabbit Hole on the ground floor of this establishment. There are other levels to explore. so maybe next time
June 26 · Dan DuncanGreat place to enjoy some Asian food with your mates or work colleagues. Quiet on a weekday night . So comfortable. Food is not too expensive and quite ok
October 12 · Jason juA spur of the moment decision to come here for dinner on our girls night out to see a show at The State Theatre just down the road. What an awesome venue in a lovely old building. We all enjoyed our meals while listening to the live music. Very busy for a Wednesday evening.
September 25 · Xtine HThe food and drinks were fantastic, and I love the feeling of the rabbit bar. It looks unassuming from the outside and a few people appeared confused about how to get in, so maybe some clearer signage would help first time visitors.
